From a Village Corner to a Global Hub: My Journey with Words

Every story has a beginning, and mine started in a quiet, remote village, Kathambangii, in the Eastern Province of Kenya. To many, it seemed like the middle of nowhere. But to me, it was a place of discovery, nature, and quiet moments that would shape who I am today. Looking back, it’s incredible how something as simple as a forgotten stack of books could change the course of my life.

Growing up, my childhood was blissfully simple. I was tasked with grazing our two cows in the late afternoon after school and on weekends, which often meant hours of solitude. While others might have found the task dull, I cherished it because it gave me time to sit under a tree with a book in hand. Those afternoons taught me that reading could carry me far beyond the boundaries of my little village.

Childhood Moments that Sparked a Love for Words

The turning point came one day at school. While sweeping the senior teacher’s office, I stumbled into a small, dimly lit room filled with dusty books. I still remember the smell of those old pages. As I opened one of the books, I became utterly absorbed and forgot about my chores. The senior teacher—may he continue to rest in peace—noticed my fascination with reading. He assigned me a task: to pick two books each week, read them, and give him a review at the end of the week. That moment changed everything—my love for books and words.

From then on, writing became my haven. I remember the excitement of creating a puzzle and proudly presenting it to my English teacher, only to be met with indifference. While my effort went unnoticed, it never dampened my spirit. Instead, I poured myself into writing short plays and drama scripts for Sunday school. Every word, every line, felt like a piece of me coming alive on paper.

Those early experiences planted the seed of resilience. Writing was no longer just an interest; it was becoming part of who I was.

Life, however, doesn’t always move in a straight line. Years later, I found myself in the corporate world — a place that, from the outside, looked successful and fulfilling. But inside, something felt incomplete. Despite the routine and responsibilities, my heart kept pulling me back to writing.

It began with something small: reviewing books for friends online. What started as casual reflections soon reignited the fire I had carried since childhood. I realized that writing wasn’t just a hobby. It was my calling.

Returning to My First Love

The decision to return to writing felt like coming home after a long journey. It reminded me of that little girl in the dusty book-filled room, eyes wide with wonder. Only this time, I wasn’t just reading stories — I was creating them, shaping them, and sharing them with the world.

That journey of rediscovery gave birth to Anza Hub. More than just a blog, it’s a space where people can come together; to share insights, ideas, and stories that matter. Whether it’s the comfort of a morning coffee, reflections on sustainability, or personal journeys of growth, Anza Hub is about connection.

Why I Write Today

I write because stories have the power to bring us together, no matter where we come from. My childhood village shaped me, but my words belong to a broader world. Each blog post is not just a piece of me but also an invitation for you, the reader, to connect, reflect, and perhaps find part of your own story in mine.

This is where stories begin, and I’m grateful to share mine with you. Welcome to the hub. Welcome to Anza Hub.
